Rhubarb powder comes from the roots and rhizomes of the flowering plant Rheum palmatum, native in China and Tibet. It is also called Chinese rhubarb and it has been cultivated for its roots to be used in traditional Chinese medicine for its laxative and antipyretic properties.
Rhubarb powder can be used to facilitate bowel movement and relief from constipation. It can also be consumed to decrease stomach indigestion and heartburn.
Rhubarb powder may also be effective against cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus. It can be applied, as a thick paste, directly on the affected area to accelerate the healing process.
