Thyme is an essential herb to the greek and Mediterranean cuisine. It combines perfectly with all other Mediterranean herbs such as oregano, rosemary, summer savory, basil, bay leaves. It is used to season grilled meat, beef, pork or poultry. It is also used in vegetable based recipes such as ovenbaked potatoes. Thyme is used in various tomato sauce recipes, in combination with oregano, basil, onion and garlic.

Thyme is known for its beneficial abilities to relieve stress, cure respiratory problems, improve heart health, strengthen the immune system, and prevent infections. It is traditionally used to treat respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, chronic asthma, congestion, colds and flu, seasonal allergies. Thyme is expectorant and helpd to release mucus and phlegm.

One of the most active ingredients in thyme is thymol. This organic compound effects the body and prevents infections of fungi and viruses such as intestinal infections, pulmonary infections and genital and urinary tract infections.
