Origanum vulgare

Country of Origin: Mavrouda, Macedonia, Northern Greece

Greek Oregano from Mavrouda of the municipality of Volvi, a famous area also known as "Oregano Village". This small village produces about 500 tonnes of wild oregano annually from about 150 growers and a percentage of its production is exported overseas. It is a wild oregano of premium quality with a distinctive aroma. Oregano is one of the most important herbs that Greek nature offers to us generously, intertwined with Greek cuisine and Greek flavors. The aroma of oregano will always remind us of the greek salad, the grilled octopus, the feta cheese and all the flavors that trigger memories of the greek islands, the greek mountains, the Aegean sea and greek hospitality.

Oregano is best added at the end of each recipe as overheating alters its taste, reduces its aroma and usually adds bitterness to the food. Sprinkle the oregano at the end of the recipe, rubbing it slightly with your fingers to release all its aromas.
