Country of Origin: Egypt

Scientific name: Cymbopogon

Lemongrass is an herb with sweet lemony aromas and notes of freshness that strongly resemble the aromas of lemon. It is used for its aromas, both in cooking and as a medicinal herb. Lemongrass decoction is even used in Ayurveda practice for its digestive, antipyretic, expectorant and detoxifying properties.

Traditionally, lemongrass decoction is used as a detoxifier, as a diuretic, to reduce blood pressure, as an aid in weight loss and as a mild relaxant to fight insomnia. Ideally, to enhance its relaxing action, combine it withpassionflowerlemon balm and hawthorne.

How to use lemongrass in cooking:

Lemongrass is used in Thai cuisine in marinades and in seafood, chicken and soup recipes. It creates a nice tasty result in recipes with coconut milk. lime and ginger. The dried pieces shown in the picture, can be used as they are in cooking. Wrap them in tulle or a coffee-tea filter and add them to your recipe to soak. Remove after cooking, as it tends to have a woody, fibery texture. If the food is boiling for a long time, then you do not need to put them in tulle as they will absorb moisture during cooking and will soften.

Spices to try in combination with lemongrass:

Lemongrass, in cooking, goes well with curry powder, cloves, ginger, mustard powder, turmericcumin, cardamom and coriander.
